Zinaida Gippius (1869–1945) was a Russian poet, playwright, novelist, editor and religious thinker, one of the major figures in Russian symbolism. In the 1890s, she used male clothes and pseudonyms, and became the Russian symbol of sexual liberation. Her Collection of Poems. 1889–1903 was an important event in Russian cultural life.
