John Buchan (1875 – 1940) was a Scottish novelist and politician, best known for his 1915 espionage novel The Thirty-Nine Steps and its sequels: Greenmantle (1916), Mr Standfast (1919), The Three Hostages (1924), and The Island of Sheep (1936). His works of sf genre interest include the novella "No-Man's-Land" (1899), "The Knees of the Gods" (1907), and "Space" (1911). Buchan's only sf novel is The Gap in the Curtain (1932)
