Founder of Poetry magazine in 1912, Harriet Monroe issued a call for "poems of modern significance." The journal supported Modernism's international influence and appeal. Monroe kept a vigilant watch for new talents and published, among others, T.S. Eliot, Carl Sandburg, and Ezra Pound.
