Hermann Hesse (1877–1962) was a German-Swiss poet, novelist, and painter. His best-known works include: Demian, Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, Narcissus and Goldmund, and The Glass Bead Game. The latter book, which was begun in 1932 though not published until 1943, is a work of Radium Age proto-sf.
