Crime, USA, Hartford

For several years I have been developing a play: Crime, USA, which explores crime in America through intimate interviews with with a wide range of people from cops, to bank robbers, to pawn shop workers and beyond. Over the past six months I have been working with the support of Real Art Ways to create a parallel version: Crime, USA, Hartford. The idea of the project as a whole is that as I collect each new unit (an interview, a song, a photograph) they can be put together in an ever expanding number of configurations, making new patterns like a Rubik’s cube, depending on what best serves the venue, the audience, the participants. With Jordan Mahome and Michael Premo I have visited Hartford several times to talk with people about crime in their city. We visited Occupy Hartford. We talked to journalists at The Hartford Courant. We spent time at Pelican Tattoo and at Hartford High.

Friday night and Saturday night will be the first presentations of this material. Performed by: Jordan Mahome, Carter Gill and Christopher Randolph, with original songs written and performed by Damon Locks (with guest musician Stephen Haynes). Please come out if you are in the Hartford area and see what we are doing.

In the words of one of our characters: “If you’re not in the right predicament, you will be eaten.”
