Putting Down Roots

We’re pleased by the news that blogger, media thinker, and HiLo-friend Joanne McNeil has taken up the post of senior editor at Rhizome, a curatorial atelier dedicated to art’s entanglement with technology, headquartered in the New Museum at 235 Bowery in Manhattan. Official as of May 2, it’s a brilliant appointment: at her blog Tomorrow Museum, Joanne has long probed the living edges of art, technology, and storytelling in the networked era with tenacity and verve. Her recent interview with Ubuweb founder Kenneth Goldsmith for Frieze Magazine demonstrates the seriousness Joanne brings to coverage of the life of art online. But in addition to being a journalist, Joanne is an impresario, an experimenter, and a keen observer of the psychic effects of networked art-making and art-sharing. With Rhizome’s mix of exhibitions, events, publications, and support for working artists, Joanne will have the chance to bring her full portfolio of energies and enthusiasms to bear. It’s fertile ground for the rhizomatic imagination — go, Joanne!
