SCREENSHOTS (2-25)

SCREENSHOTS is a monthly series of posts via which HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn reviews his most recent screenshots — before deleting them from the over-full Dropbox folder to which they’d been uploaded. Also see the PHOTO DUMP series.
Detail of Bantam Books’ 1974 paperback edition of Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow. For a forthcoming installment in HILOBROW’s SEMIOPUNK series.

Detail of a photo I took in 2014 at a Hairy Who exhibition (Art Institute of Chicago). For my installment in the forthcoming series DEFER YOUR ENTHUSIASM, edited by Adam McGovern, here at HILOBROW.

I continue to interview commercial/applied semioticians around the world for the MAKING SENSE Q&A series at SEMIOVOX…

My consultancy Semiovox recently submitted proposals for a couple of projects. One is a Baby/Beauty/Wellness brand; the other is a Sweet Snacking brand. Shown here are not examples of the clients’ products, but rather examples of brand comms that we propose to include in these audits’ stimulus sets.

I recently came across this competitive brand map created for an alternative-milk client a few years ago. I wish that Semiovox’s clients would hire me to refresh these maps every 5 years or so….
Although the RADIUM AGE ART series may have wrapped up this past December, I’m now working on the series’ thematic index. Shown here: Detail of Francis Picabia’s This Has to Do with Me (1914).
Continuing to track down the Radium Age-era proto-sf-adjacent artwork used for various sf book covers. The edition shown above of Edward Bellamy’s scientific romance Looking Backward is illustrated, I believe, with a detail from Lyonel Feinenger’s 1932 painting Treptow Street.

Continuing to surface Radium Age-era proto-sf-adjacent poetry.
What could possibly go wrong?
