One in a series of posts via which Josh Glenn will share recent examples of stuff that he was tempted to purchase from eBay… but, heroically, didn’t.

Micronauts – BARON KARZA – Vintage Mego 1976 – complete
US $60.00

I owned one of these magnet-jointed action figures — along with its evil horse, Andromeda, with whom Baron Karza could form a centaur — circa 1976.

Baron Karza began life as part of the Kotetsu Jeeg (Steel Jeeg) magnetic-toy line. Jeeg was the (heroic, not villainous) giant-robot star of his own TV show in 1975. His horse had a Nazi-ish name I don’t think you could get away with today: Panzera. When Mego licensed Takara’s Microman toys, they apparently decided the Steel Jeeg (composed of interchangeable magnetic limbs) could be passed off as a Micronaut. I was never really into Micronauts, but I did enjoy Baron Karza.
