Spread from Hermenaut #9

I was a big fan of Lisa Carver’s zine Rollerderby in the early ’90s. We’d become friends, and she contributed several pieces of writing to HERMENAUT. Here’s the opening spread of an essay I wrote about her in 1994.

I was an editor at Utne Reader magazine at the time, and we were working on a cover story about Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World. The lineup was very light on people under the age of 40, so I suggested that we include Lisa on the list. I wrote the installment about Lisa, which you can find here.

PS: The August 2022 issue of the journal n+1 features an essay by Lisa Borst — “Live Free or Die” — on Lisa Carver.

Pub. Date: 1994
