In 1968, Boston’s classical music station WBCN (104 FM) switched to a rock format — previously an AM thing — and became “The Rock of Boston,” legendary for breaking Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, the Cars, U2, the Clash, and other acts. BCN was shuttered in 2009. On trash day in my neighborhood recently, I saw someone throwing away a beer cooler with an ’80s bumper sticker…
PS: “BCN” stood for Boston Concert Network, which is to say orchestral concerts.
