Cola Turka is it

Forget Improvised Explosive Devices. This Iraq War-era Turkish TV commercial suggests that the best means of winning American hearts and minds isn’t shock and awe. Instead, it’s the delicious taste of the soft drink Cola Turka… particularly when buried in the sand in the path of advancing Marines.

According to Mark Pendergrast’s history For God, Country, and Coca-Cola, “Coca-Cola” is the second most universally recognized word on earth (after “OK”), and the Cola bottle has become a symbol of the Western way of life. This commercial, then, should be regarded as an act of cultural ju-jitsu.
