SCREENSHOTS is a monthly series of posts via which HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn reviews his most recent screenshots — before deleting them from the over-full Dropbox folder to which they’d been uploaded. Also see the PHOTO DUMP series.
Detail of a Doom Patrol cover. From a forthcoming installment, in my HILOBROW series SEMIOPUNK, on Grant Morrison’s DOOM PATROL run.
I’ve continued to conduct Q&As with my semiotician colleagues around the world, for MAKING SENSE, a series published by HILOBROW’s sister site SEMIOVOX.
I’ve noticed, lately, that back issues of my 1990s zine HERMENAUT are increasingly being offered at a steep price. I wonder if anyone could actually be paying that much? Bonkers.
This December and January will see published the final edition of a long-running series: 12 DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE, which cross-posts stories originally written for the 2009–2010 anthropological-literary experiment SIGNIFICANT OBJECTS. Shown here: Detail of PENGUIN CREAMER. Story by Sari Wilson.
I’m working on an installment on The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Be Kind Rewind for HILOBROW’s series FIRST TIME AS COMEDY — which catalogs serious, dramatic, perhaps sentimental remakes and ripoffs of satirical and comedic works.
Detail from the frontispiece to Athanasius Kircher’s “Itinerarium exstaticum” (1660). For an installment in the HILOBROW series SCHEMATIZING.
