SCREENSHOTS is a monthly series of posts via which HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn reviews his most recent screenshots — before deleting them from the over-full Dropbox folder to which they’d been uploaded. Also see the PHOTO DUMP series.
The caption explains this one.
Detail from the cover of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower — about which Ramona Lyons is writing for HILOBROW’s forthcoming series VURT YOUR ENTHUSIASM.
A trifecta of UVEs (unintended visual echoes), on HILOBROW’s homepage — June 7th.
Detail from George Grosz’s painting Daum marries her pedantic automaton George in May 1920, John Heartfield is very glad of it (1920). From HILOBROW’s series RADIUM AGE ART.
Detail from a photo of Falukorv — a distinctively red-skinned sausage from Falun, Sweden. A sneak preview of COLOR CODEX, a series we’ll cross-post from SEMIOVOX to HILOBROW in August and September.
Detail from a publicity still for Shock Treatment, a 1981 musical comedy (and sort-of sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show) about which I recently wrote for the HILOBROW series FIRST TIME AS COMEDY.
My daily teleconference writing group, “the Space,” is a crucial source of emotional support in my slow, painful effort to write fiction. Which is why it freaks me out when I look up from my writing to find “myself alone, alone / Alone above a raging sea.” (If you will.)
The sf magazine Strange Horizons published an interview with Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay about The Inhumans and Other Stories, which he translated and introduced for the MIT Press’s Radium Age series. (I’m the series editor.) Nice to see this series installment, which came out in March, continue to receive attention.
I continue to do interviews with semioticians from around the world, for the series MAKING SENSE over at SEMIOVOX…
