A collection of photos taken during the past month by HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn. Also see the SCREENSHOTS series; and see HILOBROW’s Instagram feed. Josh’s street-photography practice draws inspiration from Rob Walker’s THE ART OF NOTICING project.
Charismatic oven in Kingston, NY.
More art therapy with my mother, as she recovers from a stroke. It’s a diptych, one watercolor by each of us — inspired by the same source material (glimpsed on easel). As the caption to a freaky Gahan Wilson one-panel cartoon puts it: “I paint what I see.”
The history of my collaboration with Rob Walker begins with a broken mug — as Rob explains in our Introduction to Significant Objects (2012). So when I broke this mug, a tchotchke from one of our Project:Object “volumes” (logo design by HILOBROW friend Joe Alterio), I had to let him know….
I take so many photos of retail shelves. This is from a gas station where I was waiting while my car was being inspected. I was impressed by how semiotically “coherent” the entire array of products was — from snack bars to detergent to lighter fluid, it’s all so “powerful energy source”-coded.
Spent the afternoon at RISD, in my role as guest critic for four MID thesis projects. Sarah is not one of my advisees, but I was pleased to be able to capture this shot from her thought-provoking presentation.
Always a pleasure to spot a new title from MIT Press’s RADIUM AGE series (I’m the series editor). This one — published on March 12 — was spotted at Brookline Booksmith.
Our family friend Alouette Hennessey’s band Kalliope Jones headlined at the Rockwood Boston — amazing stuff.
A quick trip to Minneapolis and St. Paul, visiting with Sam, Kayla, HILOBROW friend Charlie Mitchell, and other great people.
