There is a mask I have to wear, a life I have to pretend, a weight I have to carry. I must be cheerful, beautiful, smart, and perfect even when I am breaking into pieces. I am in a shop window 24 hours a day pretending I am a 21st century superheroine, describing myself with dozens of positive adjectives that I do not even understand. You see an attractive, accomplished, passionate young woman eating the world. I see a messed-up girl walking barefoot in the rain with a jet-lagged umbrella.
