One in a series of posts exhuming the juvenilia and significant objects of HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn.
Back in early 1996 (20 years ago!), I was working for Utne Reader in Minneapolis, trying to get Hermenaut back on track (there was a long hiatus between #10 and #11/12), and writing regularly for a variety of publications including Preview, a pop culture-oriented weekly published by a London newspaper, The Observer. I wrote for Preview about “Americana”: mostly zines, music, TV, and movies. I don’t know if anyone else read it, but my Preview writing did catch the eye of some British commercial semioticians, who gave me my first assignments not long after this.
