THE BOURNE LEGACY
AARON CROSS TO THE WOLF
Apologies to you, dear brother in
desolation,
but only one of us gets out of this situation,
and that sound you hear, that inorganic
monotone
cutting through wood-snap and
winter groan,
getting louder, up there in the
black-and-white data zone —
that’s the drone
as it horribly goes
through the falling snows with its cold
metal nose,
and its industrial lethality
and its lack of personality.
Because they’re rolling up Treadstone.
and they want us all deadstone,
and now that I’ve gouged the tracking
device from my thigh
and shoved it down your throat,
you, wolf, are the bullseye.
Your ears prick. You lift your head.
A black-and-white god is striking you dead.
You take off at a flat gallop.
Trees snatch at the light as you pass,
and then — wallop!
I’m sorry. I forced it upon you, the vile pellet
of identity,
and you wasted your last wolf-seconds
being me.
