Hermenautic Tarot (16)

November 10, 2015
John Hilgart has asked 54 friends of HiLobrow to contribute to the Hermenautic Tarot — a comic-book rorschach creative writing experiment in symbol-making and oracular speechifying. Each contributor was randomly assigned a card from the 4 COLOR PRINTING CMYK deck, which was created by Tom Hart — using images from Hilgart’s own 4CP archive — to fundraise for the Sequential Artists Workshop. This series of posts will eventually become a booklet. UPDATE: In 2018, we are adding an additional 24 cards to the deck, in order to arrive at a cartomantically correct 78 in total.
From birth to death, from somewhere to nowhere, situations of transmission and migration are perceived as local spaces. Yet we experience dispensation in motion to somewhere else, in flowing, yet discrete, somewhat estimable units, modules limited by start/stop, entry/exit, begin/finish, focus/un-focus. Or simple acceptance.
Along the conduit, please pause to enjoy the view — simple appearances are your companion — flower wallpaper, concrete blocks, tile with grout, cut marble, stretched and glued paper, concrete rough or polished, cascading water, arrested fog, folk bottle village, mud and stick wattle, clean invisible glass, sand pitted glass or glass dripping condensation, sanded blonde wood or plaster with cracks optional.
The box, our container, our world, or room of this moment, is a passage that runs you from place to place, providing some security, structure of consistent physics and stable sensorial readers, apparent authenticity, soft sounds, fragrant emulsions, engineered lighting effects, and a historic moment. One need not experience the passage only as geometric edifice, but also as a short story or paragraph with entry, the beginning, the continuing, the proceeding, the momentum, the decay of thrust, the resolution, wheels down, chapter closing, and at the door or portal, a new chapter — a new way. Though the world is a cage of Maya, it is the world of now, so be here. See what is cooking up for you in the passage.
