What would Shakespeare do?
The Royal Shakespeare Company is producing Romeo and Juliet on Twitter over the next 5 weeks. It’s not a word-for-word transcription, but an experimental reworking, more of a reanimation than a retelling. Guided by stripped-down story grids, a skeleton cast of six actors will follow the chronology but also respond to @replies and contemporary events.
Juliet (@julietcap16) is played by Charlotte Wakefield as a threshold teen crushing on Edward Cullen from her bedroom of stuffed animals.
The project does have several designated Bard-whisperers on staff. So far Shakespeare’s poetry is not in evidence, but his rowdy groundling spirit certainly is.
