Contest Deadline

February 14, 2010

On January 26, we announced our first micro-fiction contest. Readers were invited to submit a 250-words-or-fewer story about a troubled/troubling superhuman. In the contest’s guidelines, we made it clear that “the superman or -woman should not be a caped crusader type,” but the majority of the 190+ entrants so far have ignored this stipulation; we’ve posted the caped-crusader stories, anyway — what the heck.

At 5 p.m. EST tomorrow — Monday, Feb. 15 — we’ll stop accepting entries in this contest. The stories will be judged by HiLobrow.com editors Matthew Battles and Joshua Glenn, joined by our friend Matthew De Abaitua, whose 2009 novel The Red Men was short-listed for the Arthur C. Clarke award. Before the end of the week, we’ll announce a winner and a few runners-up.

The winning story will be published on HiLobrow.com; and we’ll record the story as part of our next Radium Age Science Fiction podcast. The winner will also receive a snazzy HILOBROW t-shirt. We’ll also publish the runners-up.

ALSO: Tomorrow, we’ll announce a second micro-fiction contest. So stay tuned!
