One in a series of 24 posts completing the HERMENAUTIC TAROT. The first 54 installments were published in late 2015 and early 2016; a proper tarot deck contains 78 cards.
You can resist everything, except temptation. Consider what it is to yield: is there not some wisdom in softness, in stretching? Be the wise bamboo. Bend. Bend and bend and bend, then snap back harder than before. You are not some fragile, crystalline thing. You are flesh and bone, stronger when tested. What is temptation but a veiled intuition, a vague hunch, a craving for the medicine that only you can taste? You know what’s good for you. This is your affirmation: “I know what’s good for me. I know what I want.”
REVERSED: Noise. A ceaseless cacophony of inner voices, each pulling you in a different direction. Hell is other people’s expectations. Hell is all the others locked in there with you, and their names are Could Have, Should Have, Would Have, Wanted To, Tried To, and on and on. Are you paralyzed by indecision? Of all the temptations this world has to offer, can you not pick the very best one for yourself? Why not?
